Jay-Z playing the SXSW music festival, Angelina Jolie acting in a local community theatre production and Alexander McQueen designing an affordable, knock-your-proverbial-punk-socks-off line for Target.
Until now, “sweet dreams” may have been made of these fantasies—to modify a line from the classic Eurythmics song—but the last is coming true at a Target near you on April 14.
As the story goes, the “enfant terrible” Brit designer took a fancy to the style of Duke Spirit singer Liela Moss (think dark mini, black leggings, killer knee-high leather boots) and designed a line based on it. Reports from New York Fashion Week include long lines (a la queuing up for Santa Claus at Macy’s) and pleading shoppers, dying to get their hands on the gear.
The McQ line is a contemporary collection including dresses, tunics, jackets and tees designed with a rock-and-roll twist and relies heavily on a palette of muted black, white, gray and tan with splashes of bright pink and cobalt blue. The strapless pleated dress in “moody blue” tattoo print featuring mermaids, dice, anchor and a leather studded belt exemplifies a collection reasonably priced from $19.99 to $129.99.
