Generic Man’s debut line of women’s footwear builds on the look of a traditional men’s dance shoe but adds asymmetry and a leather seam.
The women’s line of lively purples and yellows in suede and canvas initially launched in one retail location in Vancouver and five around the U.S. Since that time, the shoes have touched ground in Japan, Hong Kong, Finland, Greece, Korea, Italy, across Canada and more than 20 locations in the U.S., at retailers including Steven Alan, OAK, TENOVERSIX and Canvas.
Founders Kevin Carney and Brandon Day have been melding street, surf and luxury footwear since 2006 through their collections of men’s Italian hand-lasted shoes, crafted in a century-old Portuguese factory.
“Seeing how factories create shoes and noticing what our friends are wearing inspires us to incorporate a vintage look to blend with the global market place,” Carney says.
The Generic Man’s future women’s collections include more feminine styles and a new leggy twist on traditional brogues and wingtips.
Women’s and men’s shoes retail $225-390.
